How to Search the Southaven Court Docket
Start with the citation or court paper itself. Was it issued by Southaven Municipal Court? The city runs its own portal for citation lookup and eligible payment. A matter showing only there may still need a clerk call for a court date, a show-cause issue, probation, a warrant question, or a record request. If the paperwork names another court, search there instead. County traffic outside city limits routes differently. A municipal appeal can also reach County Court.
- Open the official Southaven citation search and select the least sensitive route that fits the information already on hand.
- Use the Southaven citation number when available, then check that the returned court and violation match the paper.
- Read the Southaven entry for the setting, amount, status, and any instruction that a clerk or appearance is required.
- If the Southaven result is absent or incomplete, call the Municipal Court Clerk at 662-393-7042 before treating it as a no-record result.
- For a Southaven matter that has been appealed or otherwise filed above the city court, use the county-level route described on the DeSoto case search page.
A portal result can change after payment, a reset, or a clerk update. Confirm any live setting directly with the court.
Southaven Citation Search Paths
The Southaven portal offers six ways to begin a citation search. You can look up by citation, license, SSN, plate, name, or business. These are lookup paths. They are not a promise that every Southaven matter is searchable or payable online. Enter only what your own search requires. Never publish or share identifiers from a result.
| Southaven route | Use when | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|
| Citation | The Southaven citation paper is available. | Match the court and violation. |
| License or plate | The paper is not at hand but the portal route is appropriate. | Confirm the returned citation with the clerk. |
| Name | A Southaven search must begin without a citation number. | Similar names can produce more than one result. |
| Business | The Southaven matter is listed to a business. | It is distinct from an individual-name route. |
When the portal will not answer a court-date or file question, go to the official Southaven Municipal Court page. The Southaven search is separate from the Mississippi Electronic Courts system for Circuit and County cases.
The Southaven Municipal Court
Southaven Municipal Court keeps the city-level docket. It covers traffic, ordinance violations, and municipal misdemeanors within its jurisdiction. It is not the same office as the DeSoto Circuit Clerk. Nor is it the Justice Court Clerk or Mississippi Electronic Courts. That matters when a citation becomes an appeal or was issued outside the city. The office sits at 8912 Northwest Drive, Southaven, MS 38671. Clerk Thomas Mastin's phone is 662-393-7042. Hours run Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Southaven office keeps the city court information. That holds even when an online vendor displays the citation screen. Tell the clerk exactly what you need. Is it a Southaven docket date, payment eligibility, an outcome, an active file, or a certified record? Each is a different request with a possibly different answer.
Southaven Court Office Context
Southaven counted 54,648 residents in the 2020 Census. That made it the largest of DeSoto County's five cities. Size helps explain the court's recurring criminal, traffic, fine, and compliance sessions. The city runs those instead of one generic court day. The office is a real access point for city cases. Still, no posted schedule replaces a specific Southaven setting. The Southaven Court Officials page lists the court's own officials and contact details for city matters.
City court contacts belong with the municipal court. Serving DeSoto County residents does not move them to the county courthouse.
Southaven Court Dates and Settings
Every Southaven court date is case-specific, even one placed on a recurring session. Check the citation first. Then try the Southaven portal. If the date or setting type stays unclear, call the clerk. Remember that a setting is a scheduled event, not a result. An initial traffic setting, a compliance matter, a probable-cause hearing, and a trial date each take different preparation. Any of them can move by court instruction.
| Date | The Southaven date assigned to the specific citation or case. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed docket-call or individual setting time, confirmed with the court. |
| Location | Southaven Municipal Court or the location identified by the court for that setting. |
| Setting type | For example, initial, traffic, criminal, fine, show cause, probable cause, or prisoner initial. |
| Status | A pending, paid, reset, or other Southaven status that should be read with the actual entry. |
The office closes Wednesdays from noon to 1:30 p.m. That closure does not cancel Wednesday court activity or change a Southaven setting.
Southaven Weekly Court Sessions
The city publishes a detailed weekly pattern. Monday brings show-cause and community-service matters at 2 p.m. Then come prisoner initial matters at 3 p.m. Wednesday covers initial criminal and VOP matters at 9 a.m. Probable cause follows at 2 p.m., with later prisoner, trial, plea, and attorney-report sessions. Friday starts initial and continued traffic, criminal, and fine matters at 9 a.m. Prisoner initial matters come at 10 a.m. First-Friday payment-plan fine matters sit at 9 a.m.
| Southaven session | Published pattern |
|---|---|
| Monday | Show cause/community service 2 p.m.; prisoner initial 3 p.m. |
| Wednesday | Initial criminal/VOP 9 a.m.; probable cause 2 p.m.; additional sessions listed by the court. |
| Friday | Traffic, criminal, and fines 9 a.m.; prisoner initial 10 a.m.; first-Friday payment-plan fines 9 a.m. |
These are recurring Southaven sessions, not a countywide calendar. Confirm the case date before appearing.
Southaven Traffic Tickets
Many Southaven traffic tickets can be resolved through the city's citation portal without an appearance. That only works when the violation is eligible. Paying online can enter a plea and waive an attorney or trial. A ticket that cannot be prepaid should follow clerk or court instruction. Do not assume an online path. For a ticket written by a city authority, the portal and the clerk come first. The official Southaven traffic procedure sets out the city's prepayment and failure-to-appear rules.
A portal screen can help locate a citation, but a payment confirmation is not the full Southaven docket. It does not replace a requested court record either.
Southaven Prepay Limits
Not every Southaven ticket can go through routine prepayment. The city's own list of exclusions covers speeding 30 or more miles per hour over the limit. Also excluded are school-zone violations, reckless driving, racing, animal-control matters, code-enforcement matters, fire or building-code matters, and curfew violations. If a Southaven case falls in one of those groups, confirm with Municipal Court first. Do not assume the portal will take the payment. Payment plans are another exception. Southaven requires court approval rather than a default partial payment.
Corrected insurance or equipment proof works the same way. Contact the Southaven clerk before the court date. Let the court state the current requirement. An upload, a receipt, or a portal payment does not by itself settle a separate Southaven compliance issue.
Note: Eligibility and payment rules can change. Southaven's current court instruction controls over an older portal result.
Where Southaven Cases End Up
Most Southaven municipal matters stay in Municipal Court. Some move by case type or procedural path. County Court hears certain Municipal Court appeals and carries the criminal and civil jurisdiction the county describes. Above that sits Circuit Court, 23rd Circuit Court District, the general-jurisdiction trial court for felony criminal cases and for civil actions involving $200,000 or more. The Circuit Clerk keeps the county-level papers. For remote access to Circuit and County civil and criminal cases filed after 2021, Mississippi Electronic Courts is the route.

When a Southaven case is filed or transferred above city court, start with the city paperwork, then follow the county court route. The DeSoto County court docket overview sorts out which office holds what among Municipal, Justice, County, Circuit, and Chancery records. An appeal can later reach the Mississippi Court of Appeals under the applicable rules.
Southaven Failure To Appear Steps
A first failure to appear in Southaven triggers a new date mailed at least 21 days later. The address on file matters a great deal. Miss that second date and bench-warrant risk follows. This is a court process, not a guessing game about whether a warrant has cleared. Call the clerk for the current Southaven status and the exact next step.
Show-cause and probation matters run on a separate Southaven path. The portal sends users to the clerk for those payments. Paying does not automatically clear an active contempt warrant. The city also warns that some pre-2019 failure-to-appear license suspensions may need a clearance form. When adult defensive driving is involved, call before paying.
Southaven missed-date warning: A new date or a payment screen is not proof that a Southaven failure-to-appear issue is resolved. Verify the court’s current instruction before appearing or making a payment.
Public Access to Southaven Court Records
For a Southaven municipal citation or court file, Municipal Court is the first place to ask. Tell the clerk exactly what product you need. That could be a docket date, a disposition, an ordinary copy, or a certified court record. The county Board of Supervisors public-record form is not the route for a Southaven judicial file. Access can still be limited by sealing, restriction, redaction, and other confidentiality rules.
Mississippi access rule: The Mississippi Public Records Act, including Miss. Code § 25-61-5, provides for inspection and copying under reasonable written procedures. Miss. Code § 25-61-7 addresses actual reasonable copy costs, and § 25-61-11 recognizes records made confidential by law, statute, or court rule. A city court clerk remains the proper Southaven contact for the city judicial record.
A visible docket entry is a chronology. It may not include every document in the Southaven file. Ask whether an item is open to inspection and whether any restriction affects remote access or copying.
Southaven Payment Record Limits
A Southaven payment result proves the city portal received a transaction. It does not prove much else. A docket can show a setting, a reset, a show-cause event, a clerk action, an order, or a disposition. A basic payment view never captures those. When the question is a current court date or a formal record, ask the Municipal Court Clerk for the proper confirmation channel. The Southaven court source adds the local court context behind the city docket.
When an online citation entry will not answer a date, eligibility, warrant, probation, or record question, the Southaven court office is the practical fallback. A separate official court-page image is also available through Southaven's court image source.
That Southaven image gives local court context only. It does not identify a case, a setting, or a payment outcome.
